Andrea Mitchell

Andrea Mitchell works as a journalist for NBC News based out of Washington D.C. Mitchell has a BA degree in English from University of Pennsylvania. In the year 1967, Mitchell became a reporter for KYW Radio and TV in Philadelphia. In 1976, she joined the CBS-affiliate WDVM-TV which was based in Washington DC (then WTOP). After two years, she joined NBC News as a Washington reporter. The year 1981 saw her begin reporting on the White House and became chief Congress correspondent in 1988. Mitchell was appointed Chief White House correspondent in 1992 and the chief foreign affairs correspondent for NBC News in 1994. Mitchell hosted and participated as panelists on the TV program Meet the Press. Mitchell was a panelist at the debate in 1988 between George Bush & Michael Dukakis. Mitchell is the wife of Alan Greenspan who was former chairman of the Federal Reserve Board. Mitchell was awarded in 2005 her Goldsmith Career Award in Journalism for the John F. Kennedy School of Government. Also in 2004, Radio-Television News Directors Association, (RTNDA) was honoured Mitchell for her role in defending First Amendment Freedoms. Mitchell's first White House coverage was for NBC News, between 1981-1988. This period included both Ronald Reagan terms in office. Mitchell covered a range of interesting stories such as arms control the budget tax reform and the Iran-contra scandal. Mitchell traveled extensively along with the President Reagan to summits together with Mikhail Gorbachev and other world top leaders.
